Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC) marked a historic milestone on August 7, 2025, with the inauguration and ribbon cutting of its newest diagnostic assets—the Weight-Bearing Radiography 3D System (WR-3D) and the Dynamic Remote R/F Table. Held at the Department of Diagnostics and Therapeutics Radiology (DDTR), the event celebrated CRMC’s commitment to advancing patient care and diagnostic capabilities through cutting-edge technology.
The WR-3D system, also known as the “stand-up CT scan,” is the first of its kind in the Philippines. Unlike traditional CT and MRI scans that require patients to lie in a supine position, WR-3D allows for 3D Multi-Planar Reconstruction (MPR) while the patient is in a natural, weight-bearing stance. This breakthrough enables more accurate assessments of spinal alignment, joint function, and orthopedic conditions. The system supports 3D scanning and MPR for single body parts, full spine, and full leg imaging. It is also equipped with AI-powered automatic segmentation and measurement software, capable of calculating critical parameters such as Cobb angle, vertebral rotation, and 3D varus and valgus deformities—making it a powerful tool for both diagnostics and treatment planning.
Complementing this innovation is the Dynamic Remote R/F Table, a versatile imaging system featuring a dynamic flat panel detector. It offers 17x17 inch digital fluoroscopy with a rectangular field of view and can seamlessly switch between fluoroscopy and radiography in just 0.8 seconds—without requiring any hardware or software changes. This flexibility enhances workflow efficiency and supports a wide range of diagnostic procedures.
The program commenced with an opening remark from Dr. Venicius P. Doruelo Jr., head of the Department of Diagnostics and Therapeutics Radiology, who acknowledged the partnership with Elan Vita Diagnostics Solutions and emphasized the importance of innovation in healthcare. He highlighted how these new technologies will elevate diagnostic capabilities and improve patient outcomes. Dr. Doruelo also expressed gratitude to the Dr. Ishmael R. Dimaren, Medical Center Chief II, for championing the project and prioritizing patient welfare.
It was followed by a message from Mr. Rockey Tang, Overseas Vice President of Shenzhen Angell Technology Co. LTD. He congratulated CRMC for being the first institution in the country to acquire this advanced technology. He thanked Dr. Ishmael R. Dimaren for his leadership and underscored the significance of AI integration in modern radiology.
In response, Dr. Dimaren expressed full support for the department and reaffirmed CRMC’s role as an apex referral hospital. He emphasized the need to continuously upgrade diagnostic equipment to meet evolving healthcare demands. As an accredited training institution, CRMC now offers resident physicians hands-on experience with state-of-the-art imaging systems—an invaluable opportunity for learning and professional growth. Dr. Dimaren closed his remarks by encouraging everyone to keep moving forward, work together, and strive for greater impact.
