Ceiling-Mounted Dynamic DR

Ceiling-Mounted Dynamic DR Systems Fixed-installation, high-volume radiography for radiology departments

A ceiling-mounted DR system suspends the X-ray tube from an overhead rail instead of standing it on a floor column. The tube travels the length and width of the room, so a single ceiling suspended X-ray unit serves the table, the vertical stand and free exposures — the room works around the patient rather than the patient around the equipment.

Angell builds these systems on its own dynamic flat panel detector technology, which provides visualisation during the clinical examination itself and supports fast, high-definition spot imaging — moving from two-dimensional anatomical imaging toward organ functional imaging. Two series are available: QOMO and Changfeng.

Two series, one overhead platform

Both series are fixed-installation overhead dynamic radiography systems built around Angell's self-developed detectors. QOMO is configured for mixed dynamic and static work in a busy general X-ray room; Changfeng is configured for full-length imaging in a single exposure.

Series 01

QOMO Series

QOMO pairs Angell's independently developed dynamic detector technology with a 4D 10-axis synchronised, fully balanced gantry, so overhead movement stays effortless and stable across the room. Dynamic and static flat-panel detectors are both on board and switch at millisecond level, and an ergonomic integrated console runs the room remotely.

Combined with the electrically elevated table and the multi-functional vertical stand, it meets clinical positioning requirements without repositioning the patient between devices. Detector and tube can also be lowered to near-ground level for multi-angle lower-limb work and paediatric standing examinations.

Series 02

Changfeng Series

Changfeng carries Angell's proprietary 47-inch large-format detector, capturing full-spine and full-lower-limb images in a single exposure. Stitching is no longer part of the workflow, and radiation dose is reduced accordingly.

For recumbent full-body work it adds automatic angular stitching, flexible low-profile shooting and bidirectional auto-tracking between the recumbent detector and the tube head. The tube head carries a comprehensive ultrasonic anti-collision system, and AEC with intelligent automatic collimation is standard — together improving image quality, reducing dose and raising examination throughput.

Why a ceiling-mounted system

Fixed installation digital radiography earns its place in departments where the same room runs a long list of examinations every day. Three things change when the gantry moves to the ceiling.

SPACE

The floor stays clear

The tube hangs from an overhead rail rather than a floor-standing column, so the space around the table and the vertical stand belongs to the staff and the patient. Rails run the length and width of the room, which is what lets one installation cover table, stand and free exposures instead of splitting them across separate units.

THROUGHPUT

Fewer manual steps per patient

Motion is where a high volume radiology DR room gains or loses its day. QOMO's 4D 10-axis synchronised gantry and millisecond dynamic/static detector switching keep transitions between patient positions short; Changfeng's bidirectional auto-tracking and automatic angular stitching remove the manual alignment steps in recumbent full-body work.

WORKFLOW

The room is operated, not wrestled

An ergonomic integrated console runs the system from the control room, and AEC with intelligent automatic collimation handles exposure and field-of-view setting. Low-profile positioning brings tube and detector near ground level, so lower-limb and paediatric standing examinations happen where the patient already is.

QOMO Series vs Changfeng Series

Both are ceiling suspended systems from the same platform. The difference is the detector strategy — and that decides which room each one belongs in.

Planning the room around the rails

A ceiling-mounted DR system is a permanent part of the building, not a device that gets wheeled in. Rail runs, ceiling height and room dimensions set the limits of what the gantry can reach, and the control room, table position and vertical stand all sit inside that envelope — which is why these decisions are worth settling before an X-ray room is built or refitted.

Angell has designed and manufactured digital medical imaging equipment since 2002 and supplies it worldwide. Talk to the team while the room is still on paper.

  • Room & rail layout — the reach of the overhead gantry follows the rails, so the track plan comes before the equipment list.
  • Detector calibration — support for keeping installed detectors performing to specification.
  • Operator training — for radiographers working the console and the positioning workflow day to day.
  • Workflow optimisation — tuning the room's routine around the examinations it actually runs.
